Colin Ackermann takes record seven T20 wickets in Leicestershire win

Captain Colin blows Bears away in Grace Road success.

Leicestershire bowler Colin Ackermann set a new T20 world record with seven wickets for 18 runs in the Vitality Blast win over Birmingham.

The 28-year-old South African-born spinner claimed the wickets of Michael Burgess, Sam Hain, Will Rhodes, Liam Banks, Alex Thomson, Henry Brookes and Jeetan Patel as the Bears were routed in the North Group contest.

Birmingham, chasing 190 to win, were all out for 134 as the hosts prevailed by 55 runs at Grace Road.

Ackermann, clutching the match ball afterwards, told Sky Sports: "It hasn't really sunk in. I'm sure I'll remember this game for a long time."

The Foxes captain continued: "I think it's the first time it's really turned at Grace Road. I tried to use my height and get a bit of bounce.

"I wanted to get the batters to hit into the bigger side of the field and mixed up my pace."

Asked if he thought he would set a world record with the ball, he added on Sky Sports: "Never in a million years. I'm a batting all-rounder."

The performance enabled Leicestershire to improve their qualification hopes with a third win in four games, and coach Paul Nixon said: "I'm pleased for the guys. The Leicester public haven't had much to shout about."

Birmingham captain Patel said: "You can't take away from a great display of bowling. Colin's spell put them in the ascendancy."
