Matt Prior out of Lancashire match through injury

Matt Prior's hopes of making England's Test squad has been dealt a blow after injury keeps him out of Sussex's latest County Champonship match with Lancashire.

England wicketkeeper Matt Prior will Sussex's County Championship encounter with Lancashire, which starts at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The 32-year-old is looking to win his place back in England's squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka next month, but he is still struggling with an Achilles injury.

Prior's hopes of recall could be further hindered if Jonny Bairstow makes his return from a broken thumb to play for Yorkshire against Durham. Bairstow replaced Prior after the third Test of the disastrous Ashes series, which Australia won 5-0.

The Sussex player's absence could also play into the hands of Lancashire's Jos Buttler, who is pressing for a Test call up after being selected for England's one-day international against Scotland.

Prior scored a century in his maiden Test against the West Indies in 2007.
