Kumar Sangakkara rules out retirement U-turn

Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara insists that he will stick to his plan of retiring from ODI cricket at the end of the World Cup, despite being in fine form.

Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara has had no second thoughts about retiring, despite putting in a number of impressive displays at the ongoing Cricket World Cup.

The 37-year-old became the first man to hit centuries in four consecutive one-day internationals during his side's 148-run win over Scotland earlier today, adding 124 to his triple-figure hauls against Australia, England and Bangladesh.

However, despite being in arguably the best form of his career, Sangakkara is sticking to his plan of retiring from the 50-over format at the end of the tournament.

"It is never about whether you can play or not. Retirement is not about form, it is about time and place and whether it feels right," he told BBC Sport.

Sangakkara boasts a formidable record in ODI cricket, amassing 14,189 runs in 403 matches.
