Kevin Pietersen was out for just two on his return to Surrey against Lancashire at the Oval.
The ex-England batsman opted to carry on playing for the county despite being told that he has no chance of earning an international recall.
However, he spent just five minutes at the crease before he edged Kyle Jarvis to first slip.
Pietersen joined the county ahead of the season when he was told that he could force his way back into the England team, but new director of cricket Andrew Strauss told him that wouldn't be possible earlier this month.
The 34-year-old scored 355 not out against Leicestershire earlier this season.
