Team England beaten to 4000m team pursuit bronze by Canada

Team England are beaten by Canada in the bronze-medal race for the women's 4000m team pursuit at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Team England have been beaten to a place on the podium in the women's 4000m team pursuit after losing out to Canada in their bronze medal race this evening.

The team of Emily Nelson, Rebecca Raybould, Eleanor Dickson and Emily Kay were always adrift of their rivals, finishing up more than four seconds behind as they crossed the finish line.

Canada had also been faster than England in the heats, and the quartet of Allison Beveridge, Annie Foreman-Mackey, Ariane Bonhomme and Stephanie Roorda once again held off their rivals to earn their place on the podium.

Host nation Australia stole the show with a Games record on their way to gold, though, shaving more than two seconds off the record they themselves had set in the heats.

The Aussie foursome overtook neighbours New Zealand to seal the top prize in emphatic fashion, with the Kiwis forced to settle for second place.

Australia's success proved to be the first leg of a golden double on the night, with the men's pursuit team also finishing top of the podium in style while breaking the world record along the way.
