Team Jumbo-Visma cyclist Milan Vader will remain in hospital for the "next days" after his recent crash at the Itzulia Basque Country race.
During stage five of the event on Friday, Dutch rider Vader sustained serious injuries after crashing over a guardrail on a descent and was immediately operated on in Bilbao.
The 26-year-old was stabilised by doctors following initial reports that his injuries - including a narrowing of his carotid arteries, broken vertebrae, a fractured collarbone and shoulder blade - could have been life-threatening.
A fresh update from Team Jumbo-Visma posted on social media read: "Milan will remain in the University Medical Hospital in Bilbao for the next days for observation and further recovery. If there is news, we will come back to you again."
The 2022 season represents Vader's first term with Jumbo-Visma on the road, having previously excelled in mountain biking with a bronze in the 2019 European Championships in cross-country.
