Michael van Gerwen wins Grand Slam of Darts title

Michael van Gerwen records a 16-8 win over James Wade to win the Grand Slam of Darts for a second time.

Michael van Gerwen has recorded a 16-8 win over James Wade to successfully defend his Grand Slam of Darts title.

The world number one has been in fine form all tournament and he was able to ease to a comfortable victory over Wade, who finishes as runner-up in Wolverhampton for a second time.

Van Gerwen averaged over 111 in his 16-10 triumph over Peter Wright in the semi-finals but he found himself facing a 3-1 deficit in the early stages.

However, after Wade missed darts to extend his lead, Van Gerwen began to find his range and at the third break, he had established a 10-5 advantage.

Wade got back to 11-8 but he was unable to get any closer to the Dutchman, who reeled off five legs in a row to claim yet another win in 2016.

Despite failing to overcome Van Gerwen, Wade will take confidence from reaching his first Major final since July 2015 ahead of the upcoming Players Championship Finals and World Championship.
