Michael van Gerwen wins European Championship

World number one Michael van Gerwen wins the European Championship after beating Terry Jenkins 11-4 in the final in Muelheim.

Michael van Gerwen has recorded a 11-4 victory over Terry Jenkins to win his first European Championship.

The world number one, who hit a nine-dart leg during his semi-final win over Raymond van Barneveld, dominated the final in Muelheim to lift his seventh major trophy.

Van Gerwen hit a 167 checkout on the way to opening up a 5-0 advantage before Jenkins recorded three legs in a row to reduce the deficit to two.

However, the 25-year-old ensured that Jenkins stayed out of reach with three legs of his own before finally seeing out the match.

Van Gerwen's victory means that Jenkins has now failed to achieve success in nine major finals.
