Michael van Gerwen has added another major televised title to his collection with an 11-6 victory over Raymond van Barneveld in the final of The Masters.
The world number one, who earlier defeated Adrian Lewis in the semi-finals, missed double 12 for a nine-darter but an average of 112.49 was more than enough to see off the five-time world champion in Milton Keynes.
The opening eight legs between the two Dutchmen were shared before a 161 checkout from Van Gerwen sparked a run of four successive legs as he edged closer to the win.
Van Barneveld got back to 9-6 before Van Gerwen, for the second time on Sunday night, came agonisingly close to producing the perfect leg, but he was content to move one away from a first Masters success.
The victory was confirmed in the following leg as the 25-year-old completed the ideal preparation ahead of the 2015 Premier League campaign, which begins on Thursday night.
