EA Sports have confirmed that former Netherlands attacker Marc Overmars has been removed from FIFA 22 Ultimate Team following his departure from Ajax.
The 48-year-old held his post as sporting director for nearly 10 years before leaving earlier this month after admitting sending inappropriate messages to female colleagues.
Overmars featured as an Ultimate Team Icon in the last six editions of FIFA following his exploits as a player for Ajax, Arsenal, Barcelona and the Netherlands, but EA Sports have now taken the decision to remove him from the game.
When opening up the Ultimate Team mode, an in-game message reads: "To the FIFA community, Marc Overmars has been suspended from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team Packs and Ultimate Draft.
"As such, Marc Overmars ICON items will no longer be made available in Packs, SBCs and FUT Draft, and their range in the Transfer Market has been fixed until further notice."
Overmars - who has been given 86, 88 and 90-rated Icon cards throughout the past few editions of FIFA - said that he was "ashamed" of his behaviour after leaving Ajax.
