Ashley Cole backs Arsene Wenger for England job

Ashley Cole backs former boss Arsene Wenger for the managerial role with the England national side.

Ashley Cole has backed his former manager Arsene Wenger for the top job with the England national side.

The 35-year-old, who won the Premier League twice during his time under Wenger at Arsenal, has said that the Frenchman would be perfect for the role due to his track record of nurturing young players.

"Again it's debatable but for me I'd like to see someone like Wenger there. He's good with the youngsters, knows how to win and knows his football," Cole told Soccer AM.

"So if you asked me to choose a manager it would be Arsene Wenger. I think he could develop it on to the next level.

"Like I said, the players they have there is great talent. They just need the experience and just need someone like Wenger that can nurture the young ones, he's done it at Arsenal for years now so I'd like to see Arsene Wenger."

The FA has interviewed Sam Allardyce and Steve Bruce over the role but has not considered Wenger after reportedly being informed that he would not consider the position until the end of the forthcoming season.
