Arsene Wenger: Chelsea game a "real test"

Arsene Wenger describes Saturday's game against Chelsea as a "real test" of quality.

Arsene Wenger has described Arsenal's game at Chelsea on Saturday as a "real test" of quality for the North London side.

After a poor start to the season the Frenchman's side have won seven of their last eight games, moving up to seventh in the Premier League, progressing to the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup and beginning their Champions League campaign strongly.

"Now we face the real tests of our quality and, of course, that is where we want to show that we have improved. That's what is at stake at the moment," Wenger said.

"A positive result would demonstrate that we are ready to compete at the top again. That is what we want to achieve of course and we will give absolutely everything to do well in this game. We will have a go.

"Chelsea are up there, they have quality, and for me at Manchester United they showed that quality."

Wenger attributed some of Chelsea's success to new signing Juan Mata, who Arsenal were also interested in signing over the summer.

"They are a bit more creative than they were before because Juan Mata has given them something a bit more in the final third."

Saturday's game kicks off at 12.45pm.
