Arsene Wenger talks up Gervinho in his new central role after he scores twice in the 6-1 win against Southampton.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he is delighted with Gervinho's performance in a new position against Southampton.

Gervinho played as a central striker for the first time in a competitive match for the Gunners and the move was rewarded instantly, with the Ivorian scoring twice in a 6-1 victory over Southampton.

Wenger revealed in the post-match press conference that he has been considering moving Gervinho since trying the switch for the first time during pre-season.

He said: "You know we transform all wingers into centre forwards. I decided to do it during our tour of Asia.

"Once he gets ahead of the defender it's difficult to catch him back."

The Gunners secured their first home victory of the season with the crushing victory over Saints, and remain unbeaten after four Premier League games.
