Arsene Wenger gushes over "classy" Mesut Ozil

Arsene Wenger admits that it delights him to see Arsenal schemer Mesut Ozil defy his critics after his dazzling performance in the 4-1 win over Liverpool.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is happy to see Mesut Ozil silencing his critics in North London.

Ozil has often struggled since making a £42.5m move from Real Madrid in September 2013, culminating in widespread criticism - including from the club's fanbase.

However, the German schemer dazzled in Saturday's 4-1 win over Liverpool and got on the scoresheet with a superb free kick to double the Gunners' lead.

"What he does is always classy, intelligent and the timing of his passes is absolutely fantastic," Wenger told the club's official website.

"He's agile, flexible and always available in between the lines. When you play with him in the team, you would love to play with him.

"He's sometimes criticised because of his physical challenges but I believe he's on the way and is improving on that at the moment. He makes a big effort to work hard and be disciplined for the team."

The 26-year-old has scored five and set up six goals in all competitions this season.
