Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirms that captain Thomas Vermaelen will be out for at least six more weeks with a back injury.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Thomas Vermaelen faces a further six weeks on the sidelines with a back injury.

The Gunners captain aggravated a stress fracture in his lower back on international duty with Belgium that ruled out of the club's pre-season tour of Asia last month.

He told reporters at a press conference this afternoon: "It is mostly good news because everyone is quite fit.

"During this weekend [the Emirates Cup] you will see Yaya Sanogo and Santi Cazorla. I also consider Jack Wilshere to be completely available."

"Vermaelen is out for six more weeks. [Nacho] Monreal will start training on Monday."

Arsenal continue their pre-season preparations by hosting the Emirates Cup this weekend, with games in successive days against Napoli and Galatasaray.
