Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that his side can challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The Gunners finished the last campaign in title-winning form, winning nine of their last 11 games, and reportedly have a transfer budget in excess of £70m to spend this summer.
However, Wenger believes that Arsenal, who have been linked with the likes of Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas, can compete for honours with their current squad.
"With or without additions we can be title challengers next season," Wenger told reporters in Japan. "We try to do the job and we will try to do it well, but nothing has been concluded with anybody.
"What we want is not a name but a good player. The name is less important. What is more important is the quality of the player. At the moment I must tell you we are not close to signing anybody.
"Of course we want to do as many top players as we can, but we also have to focus on the players we have and develop them."
Yaya Sanogo is the only signing of note by Arsenal so far during the current transfer window.
