Arsene Wenger: 'Jack Wilshere can play in advanced role'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that Jack Wilshere can grow to play in an advanced role for his team.

Arsene Wenger believes that Jack Wilshere can develop into playing a more advanced role in the Arsenal side.

The 21-year-old is not renowned for his goalscoring ability having netted just twice in 25 games this season for the Gunners.

"I believe it's part of his development to play a bit more advanced," said the Arsenal manager. "You can always come deeper. He likes to come deep. In some games, he's more comfortable deeper.

"He's a bit in a situation like [Cesc] Fabregas was for a while. He said 'But I cannot score goals' but you could see it would come.

"He's more a team player than a goalscorer. He'll never be a goalscorer but he can be capable of scoring."

Arsenal travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday to take on Tottenham Hotpsur in the North London derby.
