Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reportedly informs the club's hierarchy that he is willing to sanction a January departure for Kalvin Phillips.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly prepared to allow Kalvin Phillips to depart in January.

Phillips joined the Champions League winners from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, but he has failed to establish himself in Guardiola's side.

After being presented with just two Premier League games in his first season with the club, Phillips was linked with a move away during the summer.

However, the 27-year-old was seemingly determined to remain at the Etihad Stadium and fight for his place in the starting lineup.

Despite staying with the Premier League champions, the England international has continued to struggle for playing time in the opening stages of the 2023-24 season.

Phillips has had to settle for just five competitive appearances this term, while his only start of the campaign arrived in last month's EFL Cup defeat to Newcastle United.

Following the lack of minutes, Phillips recently indicated that he would be open to leaving Man City during the January transfer window.

Guardiola also refused to rule out the possibility of an exit when questioned about Phillips's future ahead of Saturday's 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to the Daily Star, the Man City manager has also told the club's hierarchy that he is willing to let Phillips leave in the winter transfer window.

While Man City are prepared to allow Phillips to depart on a permanent transfer, they are also open to loan proposals.

However, they will only sanction a loan move if his wages are covered and the deal includes an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

A number of clubs have been linked with the 27-year-old, including Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham United.

Phillips is also attracting interest from abroad, with Bayern Munich and Juventus believed to be among his admirers.
