Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the club is in discussions with Eddie Nketiah over a new deal in North London.
The ex-England Under-21s international has only played 30 minutes of Premier League football all season and missed a glaring chance against Everton in Monday's 2-1 defeat.
Nketiah had not featured at all in the top flight this term before the start of the month, and his deal at the Emirates is due to expire in 2022.
Amid reports claiming that Nketiah had rejected the Gunners' offer of an extension, the 22-year-old has been tipped to seek pastures new in the January window.
Arteta is still hopeful of convincing Nketiah to stay, though, telling reporters: "We are having some discussions with him and his agent. I would like him to stay at the club.
"He's our player and someone that we rate. He has the Arsenal DNA in his blood. His reason [of rejecting] is that he wants to play more football."
Nketiah has two goals from two appearances in the EFL Cup this season and boasts a total of 15 strikes in 69 appearances for the Gunners.
