Southampton are reportedly at the head of the queue to sign Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie during this summer's transfer window.
The 21-year-old still has four years left to run on his contract with his German club, but a recent report claimed that he was keen on a move ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are all believed to be admirers of the USA international, who joined Schalke from FC Dallas in 2017 and has made 91 appearances for the Royal Blues in all competitions.
However, according to The Express, Southampton are leading the race for a player who could be available for £18m during this summer's transfer window.
The report claims that the Saints will first need to offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, though, before submitting an offer for McKennie.
Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are seemingly locked in a battle for Hojbjerg's services, with the Denmark international free to leave St Mary's ahead of next season.
