Arsene Wenger: 'Arsenal's Jack Wilshere must prove fitness before talks'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger suggests that he is monitoring the fitness of Jack Wilshere ahead of opening contract talks with the midfielder.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has suggested that he is monitoring the fitness of Jack Wilshere ahead of offering the midfielder a new contract.

Wilshere has just over six months remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, and the England international only made his first start of the season in the Premier League in Wednesday's goalless draw with West Ham United.

However, Wenger - who praised Wilshere for his performance against the Hammers - has reiterated that talks will commence later this month.

The Frenchman told reporters: "I will talk to him, I said the end of December and we are the beginning of December.

"I wanted to see how much he can contribute and last physically. I consider him an Arsenal man."

Wilshere has admitted that he remains in the dark over his future with the North London outfit.
