Goals from Matthew Lowton and Christian Benteke give Aston Villa a 2-0 victory over Swansea City at Villa Park.

Swansea City have suffered their first loss of the season, slumping to a 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa.

Villa took the game to Swansea from the first whistle and could have taken an early lead but Andreas Weimann fired his shot over from just inside the area.

However, the hosts were not made to wait for too much longer and made the breakthrough when Matthew Lowton superbly volleyed past Michel Vorm.

Despite enjoying most of the possession, Villa struggled to create clear chances and Darren Bent was forced to try his luck from distance but Vorm easily dealt with the weak effort.

Paul Lambert's side continued to dominate proceedings after the break and Weimann was once again denied a goal, this time by a clearance on the line by Leon Britton.

Ciaran Clark was next to waste an opportunity for Villa, failing to beat Vorm from close range after finding space following a Barry Bannan corner.

Vorm kept Swansea in the game for most of the second half and his quality was clear when he denied Clark again by pushing his header over the crossbar.

The Dutch goalkeeper was unable to prevent the home side's second goal in the closing stages of the contest as Benteke took advantage of a poor pass from Ashley Williams to finish comfortably and complete a satisfying debut for his new team.
