Juanfran handed one-match ban

Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran will serve a one-match ban following his red card in Sunday's 1-0 win over Valencia.

Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran will serve a one-match ban after picking up a red card in his side's 1-0 win over Valencia at the weekend.

The right-back was dismissed in the latter stages for a late lunge on Pablo Piatti, who was leading a counter-attack for the home side.

It had been suggested that the Spanish Football Federation Competition Committee would extend the band due to the nature of the challenge, but they opted against extending the punishment.

As a result, the Spanish international will miss the league clash with Levante this weekend.

Atletico need just two wins from their final three league games to secure the La Liga title.
