Atletico Madrid maintain perfect start in La Liga

Diego Costa scores twice as Atletico Madrid beat Osasuna 2-1 at home to maintain their perfect start in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid have maintained their 100% record in La Liga with a 2-1 victory over Osasuna at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

However, it was the visitors who had the first chance of the contest, and it came in the 15th minute. Sisi took a shot on goal from outside the box and it deflected off of Miranda and off the post.

Three minutes later Diego Simeone's side went ahead as Diego Costa tapped in Juanfran's low cross from close range.

Costa doubled Atletico's advantage in the 25th minute, this time heading home an Arda Turan cross.

Atletico continued to create chances with Koke and Leo both testing Osasuna goalkeeper Andres Fernandez, but it was the visitors who scored the game's third goal.

Oriol Riera was the man who gave Osasuna some hopes of a comeback in the second half as he turned home Sisi's free kick on the stroke of half time.

However, it was hosts Atletico who were in control of possession in the opening minutes after the restart, although Javi Gracia's side did have a chance on 64 minutes.

On that occasion Emiliano Armenteros capitalised on a mistake from Miranda, advanced on goal and shot wide from close range.

Los Rojillos failed to create anything of note thereafter as Atletico cruised for the remainder of the match to bag maximum points and make it six wins out of six in La Liga.
