Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourinho informs Atletico Madrid and Valencia that they will have to pay £35m if they wish to sign Iago Aspas.

Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourinho has told Atletico Madrid and Valencia that they will have to pay £35m if they wish to sign Iago Aspas during this summer's transfer window.

Aspas, 30, has been in excellent form for Celta this season - scoring 20 La Liga goals in 32 appearances.

Atletico and Valencia have both been credited with an interest in the Spain international, but Mourinho has insisted that the forward will not be sold for anything under his release clause.

"We are always ready to negotiate, and these are two great clubs, friendly clubs, who we get on well with," Mourinho told Onda Cero.

"But in this case the fans would never forgive us if we let Aspas go for less than the value of his clause, which stands at €40m (£35m), and we can't let him go for less than that.

"In fact, we believe he is worth a lot more if you see what they pay for players in today's market, but the buyout figure is what it is. Iago knows this is his home and always will be, so it depends on him if he wants to continue with us or not. We hope he's here for many more years."

Aspas returned to Celta in 2015 following a disappointing spell at Liverpool.
