Markus Weinzierl: 'Augsburg feeling confident ahead of Schalke 04 game'

Markus Weinzierl insists that his Augsburg side are confident of overcoming a difficult test against Schalke 04 on Sunday.

Augsburg manager Markus Weinzierl has insisted that his side are relishing the prospect of climbing above Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga table.

The two sides meet at the SGL Arena on Sunday in what is a crucial game for both clubs as they look to keep alive their hopes of playing in next season's Champions League, and Weinzierl is confident that his players can avenge the 1-0 defeat they suffered in the reverse fixture in October.

"It's a duel between fifth and sixth in the table and that alone speaks volumes for us," the Augsburg boss told reporters. "It's a challenge that we're really looking forward to.

"We were on a par with them in the reverse fixture and we did not deserve to lose.

"If we manage to get at them early again, then we can win it. We need 100% from all of our players."

Augsburg head into the match having won just one of their last seven league games.
