Javier Mascherano 'does not enjoy 90 minutes'

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano admits that he finds it hard to enjoy football games due to the "90 minutes of suffering" that it takes to be successful.

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano has revealed that he 'does not enjoy the suffering' that occurs during a 90-minute football match.

The Argentine has said that he 'enjoys training and learning' on a daily basis, but finds it hard to understand footballers who want to "enjoy" what comes with an intense fixture.

"It's 90 minutes of suffering because I have to concentrate fully to not make a mistake, to pay attention not only to myself but to my teammates," Mascherano told Panenka.

"I don't understand when people say 'let's go out there and enjoy it.' I don't go out there to enjoy it. I enjoy training, I enjoy learning, but for 90 minutes I don't enjoy the match."

Mascherano's Argentina team were beaten 2-0 by Ecuador in their 2018 World Cup qualifier on Friday evening.
