Bayern Munich have extended the contract of sporting director Matthias Sammer.

The 47-year-old, who played for the likes of Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund, took up the role in 2012.

However, with his previous deal due to expire next summer, the former Germany international has now committed himself to the Allianz Arena until 2018.

"I feel very much at home here and it's a huge honour to be able to continue to serve this club," he told a press conference.

Since Sammer has been at the club, Bayern have won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal twice, as well as the Champions League last year.
