Chris Hughton is expected to be formally appointed as Birmingham City's new manager today.
The former Newcastle manager impressed the club's board in a final interview on Friday and agreed final terms yesterday, The Independent reports.
Hughton beat out favourite Gianfranco Zola, as well as Roberto Di Matteo, Barry Davies and Paul Ince, to secure the role of Alex McLeish's replacement.
He will now be charged with restoring Birmingham to the Premiership next season and helping rebuild a squad weakened by relegation.
Hughton had been offered a job as assistant to Martin Jol at Fulham but decided to hold out for a managerial role.
