Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe confirms that Allan Saint-Maximin is set for a late assessment ahead of the Brighton & Hove Albion fixture.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed Allan Saint-Maximin will face a late assessment ahead of the Brighton & Hove Albion match.

The French winger suffered an injury during the fixture with Aston Villa, which was due to a kick to his calf, and since that point, he has not been featured for the Magpies.

The 24-year-old has played in 23 Premier League matches this season, scoring five goals throughout those appearances.

"Maxi still has not trained with the group yet and we will make a late assessment," Howe confirmed to the press.

"We will have to make a decision based on how he looks and how his injury status is after that training session. Aside from that, I think we are as we were with team fitness pre-Brentford."

Newcastle United head into the match in 14th place, and a victory could close the gap between themselves and the teams above them to just two points, depending on other results.
