David Marshall "gutted" by Cardiff City relegation

David Marshall admits that he and his Cardiff City teammates are feeling "absolutely gutted" following the club's relegation.

Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall has admitted that he and his teammates are feeling "absolutely gutted" following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

The Bluebirds were condemned to life in the Championship on Saturday as a 3-0 defeat at Newcastle United saw them drop out of the top flight after just one season.

Marshall now hopes that the squad can rebuild over the summer and return to the Premier League as quickly as possible.

"It is very disappointing, the boys are absolutely gutted to be relegated," the 29-year-old shot-stopper told Wales Online.

"It's not been enough in the end to keep us up. We expected more from the season and we've obviously been left very disappointed by this. It's going to be a hard couple of weeks now and we're just trying to get out heads around it all. The manager has asked us to do that.

"We've got a squad in there that won the Championship quite comfortably last season. We've got to get our heads right and start again. We had fighting spirit in abundance last season."

Cardiff play their final match of the campaign on Sunday as Chelsea make the trip to South Wales.
