Cesc Fabregas: 'It was Chelsea's year'

Cesc Fabregas believes that the Champions League will be even harder next season following Chelsea's victory.

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes that Chelsea's Champions League victory proves the strength of the Premier League.

The former Arsenal captain was on the losing side of the competition's semi-final against the Blues, when Roberto Di Matteo's side pulled off an unexpected two-leg win over Barcelona to reach the final and defeat Bayern Munich on penalties to clinch the trophy.

"People say they did not deserve it but when it's your year, it's your year," Fabregas told The Independent. "It's like when Andres Iniesta scored the goal against Chelsea in the last seconds at Stamford Bridge the year we won the treble.

"Chelsea had some luck but all the teams that win it need that, and you can only congratulate them. It says a lot for the Premier League that they have five or six teams that can beat anyone in the world, and next year it will be even worse. It will be tough for the rest."

Meanwhile, the Spaniard and his Catalan teammates are preparing for the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao on Friday.
