Andre Villas-Boas thinks that it is "extremely important" for John Terry and Anton Ferdinand to shake hands before Chelsea play QPR in the FA Cup.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas believes that it is "extremely important" for Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand to shake hands with Blues captain John Terry.

This Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round tie between the two sides has been marred by charges relating to Terry's alleged racial slur towards the QPR centre-back last year at Loftus Road.

The former Championship side have called on Ferdinand to shake hands with the England skipper before the match.

When asked if it was important, Villas-Boas replied: "Extremely important, extremely important. This game is based on good values more than anything else. These players should continue to promote these good values.

"Everybody has been having conversations, from the top, to the players, to the manager."

Terry has maintained his innocence since the allegations surfaced.
