Referee Mark Clattenburg will have to wait another week to learn the outcome of a Football Association investigation into claims that he used "inappropriate language" when speaking to Chelsea's John Obi Mikel.

An outcome of the Football Association's investigation into claims made against Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg will be announced next week.

The match official has been the subject of a probe by the English governing body after Chelsea accused the 37-year-old of using "inappropriate language" when addressing midfielder John Obi Mikel during the Blues' 3-2 defeat to Manchester United last month.

While it had originally been reported that an announcement was going to be made by the end of this week, it has emerged that Clattenburg will have to wait to learn his fate.

It is expected that the referee will miss a fourth weekend of league matches.
