Jose Mourinho charged with improper conduct by FA

The FA charge Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho with improper conduct following his dismissal from the touchline during Saturday's match against Cardiff City.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been charged with improper conduct after being banished from the touchline during Saturday's match against Cardiff City.

Referee Anthony Taylor sent Mourinho to the stands during Chelsea's 4-1 win after the Portuguese manager voiced his displeasure at the length of time that Cardiff were taking to resume play.

Mourinho's ire came when Taylor told a Chelsea player to hurry things up from a throw-in after he had repeatedly complained about Cardiff's time-wasting tactics.

The incident was one of a number of controversial moments during the match, with Eden Hazard scoring the equalising goal after Samuel Eto'o had kicked the ball away from Cardiff keeper David Marshall while he was bouncing it.

The nature of Mourinho's offence means that he is likely to receive a fine rather than a ban.

The FA have given him until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge.
