Referee Anthony Taylor 'apologised to Jose Mourinho for Cesc Fabregas booking'

Referee Anthony Taylor reportedly apologised to Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho for booking Cesc Fabregas for diving after their 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Referee Anthony Taylor reportedly offered his apologies to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho after failing to award Cesc Fabregas a penalty against Southampton.

The Premier League match official opted to brandish a yellow card to Fabregas for simulation after the Spaniard was brought down by Matt Targett in Sunday's 1-1 draw with the Saints at St Mary's.

Mourinho slammed the decision during his post-match interviews and later claimed that there is a "campaign" against his club.

According to the Daily Mail, Taylor apologised to Mourinho before the pair left St Mary's on Sunday, which is deemed unusual, despite managers and referees being allowed to discuss decisions following a 30-minute 'cooling period' after a match.

Mourinho described Taylor's decision as a "big mistake".
