Lille forward Jonathan David emerges as a transfer target for Chelsea boss Graham Potter, according to a report.

Chelsea have reportedly identified Lille striker Jonathan David as a possible transfer target for next summer's transfer window.

The Blues are widely expected to spend big on a new centre-forward at the end of the campaign, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang potentially leaving after just one season at the club.

Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be working to bring in Aubameyang, who has scored once in the Premier League for Chelsea since his arrival from Barcelona over the summer.

Raheem Sterling is Chelsea's leading goalscorer in the league this season with three, while Kai Havertz and Armando Broja have three between them this term.

Timo Werner was allowed to return to RB Leipzig on a permanent basis over the summer, but Romelu Lukaku is due back at Stamford Bridge next year following the completion of his loan spell at Inter Milan.

There is huge uncertainty surrounding Lukaku's long-term future, though, with Chelsea boss Graham Potter said to be keen to bring in his own centre-forward.

According to Jeunes Footeux, Potter is a huge admirer of David, viewing the Canada international as the ideal acquisition during next summer's transfer window.

The Blues could face strong competition from Real Madrid, though, with the Spanish giants also believed to be looking to bring him in ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

David has been in impressive form for Lille this season, scoring nine times and registering two assists in 11 appearances in France's top flight.

The Canadian joined his current side from Gent in August 2020 and has represented them on 107 occasions in all competitions, contributing 41 goals and seven assists in the process.

David still has another three years left to run on his current deal, but Les Dogues are believed to be ready to listen to offers of around €60m (£52.4m) next summer.

The forward was in strong form for his French club during the 2021-22 campaign, finding the back of the net on 19 occasions in 48 appearances in all competitions.

Chelsea have won each of their last five matches in all competitions, including a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Potter's side will play twice more in the Premier League against Brentford and Manchester United before making the trip to Austria to face Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League on October 25.
