Report: Chelsea aim to break bank to sign Paul Pogba in this window

Paul Pogba is a transfer target for Chelsea before the window closes next week, say reports.

Chelsea are willing to break their transfer record to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba before the transfer window closes, according to reports.

The Frenchman was heavily linked with moves to Manchester City and Barcelona earlier in this window, before both sides were reportedly priced out by the reigning Italian champions.

However, the London Evening Standard claims that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to make the move happen and is prepared to spend more than the £50m the club handed over to Liverpool for Fernando Torres in 2011.

The Portuguese coach is unhappy with how his central midfield pairing of Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic have started the season, and wants Pogba to give added protection to his defence.

However, the report also claims that it is highly unlikely they will sign him in this window, with just seven days to go.

Pogba is reportedly valued at £71m.
