The Bolton Wanderers defender is currently agreeing personal terms with the Blues after a fee was agreed between the two parties.
"I don't know, I am not in the loop [with the deal]," Di Matteo told reporters.
"Talks are still ongoing but I don't know when it is going to happen."
Chelsea host Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday.
