England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold insists that the Three Lions must be more clinical if they are to progress deep into the World Cup.

England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has insisted that the Three Lions must be more clinical if they are to progress deep into the World Cup.

Gareth Southgate's side missed a number of chances in the first half of their 2-1 win over Tunisia, before being saved in the second half by Harry Kane's stoppage-time winner.

Alexander-Arnold, who is yet to feature for the Three Lions in Russia, told reporters that England must put away their opportunities in front of goal.

"We can't keep missing chances, with the high level of opposition you come up against you're going to get punished," the 19-year-old said. "You've got to be ruthless in front of goal and when you get the chance to score you've got to score in these kind of competitions.

"If that's the only game where we miss several chances that'd be a positive for us. Going forward I think we'll learn from not taking our chances in the first half of that game and push forward in the next one."

The Liverpool full-back earned his first England cap in a 2-0 friendly win over Costa Rica before the World Cup.
