England striker Wayne Rooney has revealed that he feels "100% fit" ahead of the team's World Cup opener against Italy.

Rooney and his international teammates, who held their latest training session on Wednesday, meet the Azzurri in Manaus on Saturday.

When asked if he was happy with his level of fitness, Rooney told reporters: "I feel great. I feel 100%t fit, ready for this tournament.

"I'm not going to sit here and say expect this or expect that but I'll be giving everything I can to try to help the team.

"For me it is an honour to represent my country so many times. It is something I am proud to do and to be successful would be the icing on the cake."

Despite scoring 39 goals in 91 games for England, Rooney is yet to find the net at the World Cup.
