Roy Hodgson has started his recce in Brazil ahead of what he hopes will be a successful 2014 World Cup campaign.
The manager is tasked with selecting three preferred options for England's potential base camps, on the assumption they will qualify.
Hodgson, whose team were knocked out of Euro 2012 in June by eventual finalists Italy, has until early August to decide on England's possible base camps.
"This is not England being arrogant, most nations are doing this, but with the Dutch, USA, Japan, Australia, Germany and Belgium, we are one of those nations doing a lot of due diligence in a country that England have not played in since 1984," explained Adrain Bevington, Club England's managing director.
England begin their qualifying campaign on September 7 with a trip to Moldova, before playing Ukraine at Wembley four days later.
