Everton 'told to pay £3.5m to snare Burnley boss Sean Dyche'

A report claims that Everton have been put off making a formal approach for Sean Dyche due to the £3.5m release clause inserted in his Burnley contract.

Everton will reportedly have to hand over £3.5m to Burnley if they are to make Sean Dyche their new manager, according to a report.

The Toffees are said to have drawn up a four-man shortlist of names to replace Ronald Koeman, who was sacked nearly three weeks ago.

Former Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce was the initial frontrunner to take over at Goodison Park, only to pull out of a deal when it emerged that a short-term contract was being offered.

Dyche now appears to be at the top of Everton's wishlist, but The Times claims that the Clarets have inserted a big buy-out clause in his contract, which he signed in February 2016.

The report goes on to suggest that Everton have therefore been put off making a formal approach for now and could stick with caretaker boss David Unsworth until the end of the campaign.
