Everton defender Phil Jagielka reveals that he was pleased to take a point from his side's clash against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has admitted that he was satisfied to take a point from his side's clash against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

The Toffees looked like falling to a 1-0 defeat after Steven Gerrard had fired his side ahead midway through the second half, but Jagielka scored a brilliant volley in stoppage time to earn his side a 1-1 draw.

Jagielka told BT Sport: "Hopefully next time we come to Anfield we can go one better but the point is not the end of the world.

"It has been a frustrating season so far, to go 1-0 down and keep knocking at the door showed tremendous character. We need to keep showing character.

"The lads need to keep playing the same way, keep having the courage to do the right things and hopefully this will be a kick-start to the season for us."

Roberto Martinez's side are now 13th in the Premier League after six matches this season.
