David Moyes has admitted that he is desperate to bring a striker to Everton, but understands that the January transfer window isn't the "best time" to strengthen his side.
The Toffees were criticised in the summer for failing to lure new players to Goodison Park, prompting supporters to accuse the Merseyside club of being cash-strapped.
"We have been saying for a while now we need a striker, and that is obvious from our performances – but they are the ones who cost the money," The Mirror quotes Moyes as saying.
"I don't know yet if there will be any money, so we will need to wait and see what we can look to do in January.
"The thing is, the type of player that will improve this team now costs money, real money, and January isn't always the best time to try to purchase a player. But we need a striker badly."
Everton are tenth in the Premier League table following a 1-0 defeat to Stoke City on Sunday.
