As former Everton striker James Vaughan celebrates his 36th birthday, we reflect on a history-making moment that belonged to the erstwhile attacker a full two decades ago, before he had even reached adulthood.
During a Premier League clash between Everton and Crystal Palace at Goodison Park in April 2005 - which just so happened to be his top-flight debut - Vaughan needed just 13 minutes off the bench to make an impact, tapping in the Toffees' fourth goal of a 4-0 thrashing.
In doing so, Vaughan became the youngest man to ever score a Premier League goal at 16 years, eight months and 27 days - a record that still stands today - although he failed to kick on in the same vein as another teenage Everton scorer in Wayne Rooney.
Vaughan still forged a semi-successful career in the lower divisions before retiring in 2021, and while a multitude of under-18 stars have also made the net bulge in the English top flight since, none have been able to usurp the ex-Toffee.
