The 2014 FA Cup final will be held after the domestic league season has ended.

The Football Association have come in for criticism in recent years for holding the showpiece final while the Premier League season is still active, as well as angering fans by having the game kick off at 5.15pm.

However, for the first time since 2010, the cup final will be played on May 17, six days after the 2013/14 Premier League season has ended.

It is believed that the evening kickoff time will remain unaffected, despite traditionalists calling for the match to start at 3pm.

Last season's final, which saw Wigan Athletic beat Manchester City 1-0, took place on May 11, but the Latics were relegated three days later after a 4-1 defeat away to Arsenal.
