Preview: Fleetwood Town vs. Port Vale - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Fleetwood Town and Port Vale, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Fleetwood Town will attempt to end a 14-game game unbeaten in all competitions when they welcome Port Vale to Highbury Stadium for Saturday's contest.

Like their hosts, Port Vale will also be desperate to claim all three points after failing to win any of their last three matches.

After beginning his Fleetwood tenure with four consecutive defeats, Charlie Adam picked up his first point in last Saturday's 2-2 draw with Wycombe.

At one stage, Adam looked to be on course to claim the first win of his managerial career after Promise Omochere and Jayden Stockley grabbed a goal apiece.

However, the complexion of the contest changed when Omochere was given his marching orders in first-half stoppage time, and Wycombe ultimately made full use of the numerical advantage to score two goals in the second period, ensuring that the contest finished all square.

As a result of their poor form, the Cod Army are currently languishing at the bottom of the League One table, with just 11 points separating them from Saturday's opponents, who sit just outside the relegation zone.

Having failed to win any of their last three meetings with Port Vale, Fleetwood are hoping to beat the Valiants for the first time since winning 2-1 in an EFL Cup tie in September 2020.

Port Vale, meanwhile, are still searching for their first win of 2024 after taking just one point from their three matches in January.

They began the calendar year with a narrow defeat to Carlisle United, before they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Charlton Athletic.

Andy Crosby's side looked set to be involved in another draw in their recent outing against Portsmouth, but Colby Bishop's 88th-minute penalty left them with nothing to show for their efforts.

After falling to their 12th league defeat of the season, the Valiants are currently in a precarious position with just three points separating them from the bottom four.

They will now turn their attention to Saturday's trip to Highbury, where they will try to improve upon their recent record on the road, having won just one of their last nine league games (D4, L4).

Team News

Fleetwood can no longer call upon the services of Jack Marriott and Josh Earl, who have joined Wrexham and Barnsley respectively.

Adam has confirmed that Harry Boyes, Shaun Rooney and Callum Dolan will all miss Saturday's contest through injury.

Omochere will serve a one-match suspension after being sent off for two bookable offences in last Saturday's away clash with Wycombe.

As for the visitors, forward Uche Ikpeazu could miss out after he was forced off in the first half against Portsmouth through injury.

Mitch Clark, Ben Garrity and James Plant are all sidelined, while January addition Rhys Williams has returned to Liverpool without making an appearance due to an injury issue.

Winger Alex Mighten is expected to feature in the matchday squad after joining on loan from Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day.

Fleetwood Town possible starting lineup:
Lynch; Wiredu, Heneghan, Holgate; Johnston, Lawal, Mayor, Broom; Quitirna, Coughlan, Stockley

Port Vale possible starting lineup:

We say: Fleetwood Town 1-1 Port Vale

Both teams will be determined to claim three points to assist their survival efforts, but with the two sides finding wins hard to come by, we think that they will have to settle for a share of the spoils in Saturday's contest.
