Chris Powell: 'We paid price for slow start against Leeds United'

Chris Powell bemoans Huddersfield Town's late defeat at home to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in the Championship, admitting that a slow start cost his side.

Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell is adamant that his side did not deserve to taste defeat in their Championship meeting with Leeds United yesterday afternoon.

A goal from Billy Sharp in the dying stages of the contest was enough to give the Whites all three points in a 2-1 win at the John Smith's Stadium.

Sam Byram had earlier opened the scoring with a simple header beyond Joe Murphy, before Harry Bunn levelled things up to set up what looked likely to be a draw until the dramatic late twist.

"I don't think we deserved to lose the game on the balance of play, but that's what happened," Powell told the club's official website. "We didn't start well; we didn't play our normal game for the first 15 minutes and paid the price.

"However, we overcame that and finished the first half as the stronger side, deservedly getting the equaliser. The goal from Sam Byram woke us from our slumber and got the crowd going; we started to pass and do what we can do."

Huddersfield are now seven points above the relegation zone, while Leeds sit two places and two points below the Terriers in 19th.
