Huddersfield Town fire three past hapless Reading

Huddersfield Town thrash Reading 3-0 in Tuesday night's Championship clash at the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield Town have thrashed Reading 3-0 in tonight's Championship clash at the John Smith's Stadium.

The hosts were first to push forward when Jack Robinson blasted a long-range shot towards goal, which Adam Federici caught with little difficulty.

It didn't take long for Chris Powell's charges to break the deadlock, however, as a Jacob Butterfield free kick lofted into the box was emphatically headed home by Harry Bunn nine minutes in.

Following a spell of little action, the Royals were next to register a chance on goal when Hope Akpan's thumping header in the 24th minute was thwarted by goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

Just after the half-hour mark, former Terriers man Oliver Norwood launched an audacious effort from the halfway line that Smithies was forced to tip over the bar.

The Royals would rue this missed opportunity, because just before the hour, Federici fumbled Butterfield's strike, which allowed Nakhi Wells to charge in and poke the rebound into the empty net.

Huddersfield were now on the front foot and continued to slice the Reading defence open, with Ishmael Miller and James Vaughan testing the opposition keeper with dangerous efforts.

In the 74th minute, it was over for the Royals, as Miller finished off a well-orchestrated team move by lobbing the ball over the beleaguered opposition keeper.

The result means that Huddersfield now sit 12th in the Championship table, while Reading are in 15th place.
